Law Enforcement (?)

We have written on several occasions about how our unincorporated nowhereland isn't served well by the County Sheriff's Office, doesn't really have traffic law enforcement and has spotty (at best) code enforcement. Our Newsroom Elves have suggested that it is high time our website had a designated place for stories about those problems. From here on, then, this page is your one-stop site for all things having to do with local law enforcement services we are supposed to get from the Sheriff, the CHP, the County Code Enforcement Office and other entities such as the late-great Park Police, School Safety offices, PBID Security and so on.

As you read these pages, please keep in mind that the Sheriff (and other county offices) and the CHP have huge territorial responsibilities and are under-resourced to fulfill them. So, for example, if there is a need for multiple law enforcement responses to a crime problem - say an active shooter or a hostage situation - in the south area, officers assigned here will be redirected to help with that problem. As understandable as that scenario might be, it's one that leaves our community short. It is unrealistic to think that our community will get a high priority when limited resources are vectored elsewhere. The same thing can apply when officers are out sick or if the cop cars are in the shop. If limited resources are constantly spread over a large jurisdictional area, it is hard for them to be focused on a sub-section of the jurisdiction - unless there is a designated force assigned to the sub-sectional area (like a city, for instance).

Our intent with these pages, therefore, should be considered as a way to provide stories about what's going on law-enforcement-wise. These pages are not about the hard-working officers who put their lives on the line for us, they are instead about how tough it is for them and their support staffs to adequately serve the county's vast unincorporated area. Further, given our broken governance system and the power of entrenched privilege, you may be upset by what you read here; we won't be sugar-coating.
